30A- Final Reflection

Image
1. Reading through my posts from this semester gave me many flashbacks. I remember doing the bug list and being so frustrated I couldn't come up with more things that bugged me. I also remember how fun it was coming up with a business idea. It's interesting to see how much has changed from my original idea to now. You can see how much more knowledge I have gained throughout the class when reading my posts. 2. My most formative experience was seeing there is an unfulfilled need right here on campus and what measures should be taken to make more people satisfied. I'm proud of myself for recognizing this need, as well as a business idea that could help it. 3. I feel like I have moved closer to an entrepreneurial mindset after taking this course. Often, I recognize when things need to be changed or what could be done to improve the daily life of many people. 4. I would recommend that students stay on top of their work and actually take their business idea seriously. I kno...

29A- Venture Concept No. 2

1.  Opportunity: The group of consumers that I believe have an unmet need are those who prefer to drive to get on campus at the University of Florida. A large number of people wish to drive on campus but too often are let down by not being able to find a parking place. Most faculty chooses to drive on campus as well as some students, and I believe that with a way for people to search for spots on an app, more people would choose to drive on campus. This need has gotten so severe that people have started to choose other methods of transportation because looking for a spot is frustrating and time consuming. The reason this unmet need exists is due to the fact that there are not enough parking spaces for the amount of people who wish to drive their car on campus. With this, people waste their time and energy trying to a spot that does not exist. With a way for people to look at what spaces are available in each lot, traffic would decrease and people would not be as stressed out whe...

28A- Exit Strategy

1. While I am not sure what the future holds, I plan on keeping my business around for as long as it is profitable. If the business takes off, I want to expand the app to other college campuses and maybe even other public places such as town squares and parks. 2. I have selected this particular exit strategy because I think it is pointless to sell my company if it remains profitable. I think that if it is successful, the only direction I would want to go in is forward, without selling the app to another company. Having this business would be my top priority so I would not want to let it go to waste by selling to someone else. 3. I think my exit strategy has influenced my other decisions for my business. It has had a substantial impact on my future plans as far as growth of the business goes. My exit strategy has a direct correlation to my growth plans.

27A- Reading Reflection No. 3

I chose to read "How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big" by Scott Adams 1. There were a few general themes of the book: You can control your luck, if you are not good at one thing, keep moving until you find something that your are suitable for.  Overcome shyness by acting like someone else. Trying to feel like a different person will help you realize many people struggle in social situations. Take care of yourself and success will come to you. Focus on your happiness while maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine. 2. This book connects with what I have learned in the class because Adams was able to recognize opportunities and find different ways to pursue them. This enhances what we have learned in class about finding an unmet need people have and approaching it in a realistic way. 3. The exercise I would design would involve making a list of small feats that each person achieves everyday. This would show that even small achievements can lead...

26A- Celebrating Failure

1. This past semester, I failed many times. Most of my failures were self-inflicted. My biggest failure from this semester was when I submitted a paper an hour past the deadline, when I thought I was submitting it on time. I went home for the weekend and I finished up my paper the day it was due. I submitted my paper around 11:30 p.m. and it was due at 11:59 p.m. I thought everything was fine and I was expecting a good grade on the paper. This past week I got my grade back and I came to realize I had submitted my paper late. The time stamp for when I submitted it showed 12:30 p.m. I did not understand how this happened but once I started thinking about it, I realized that when I submitted it I forgot about the time change back at home. Gainesville is an hour ahead of my time zone back home, therefore I really did submit my paper late. What really makes this a failure is the fact that I now have an A- in a class I should have an A in, but I have no one to blame besides myself. 2. From...

25A- What's Next?

Existing Market I think what is next is really just perfecting what my business already has. Bug fixes on the app, and finding a better connection between the sensors and the app will help my business run more efficiently. Over time I would like to expand my app beyond UF, but I believe that it is best to ensure my app's success before thinking of a bigger picture. I talked to 3 people who all have the same problem when trying to get to campus- parking. All 3 of them share the frustration of finding a parking spot when trying to get to class, work, or the library. They all said that if the app is successful, they think it could thrive in other environments as well. They did not limit where the app could go, however I thought starting on college campuses would be beneficial to many people. I believe my approach makes the most sense. I think it is important to perfect what I already offer before expanding. New Market A new market that I have not considered is people who do not al...
